Chester PRINTED sewing pattern by Barbara-Ann Bears to make a large 20.5 inch jointed teddy bear (Copy)

Regular price £9.00

The Chester Teddy Bear pattern makes a large, classical, traditional mohair Barbara-Ann Bear about 20.5 inches (53cm) tall.

The Chester pattern is for a very elegant centre seam bear in a similar style to the first teddy bears in the early part of the 20th Century.

We've used this pattern to make bears in a variety of mohairs ranging from 15mm to 25mm distressed or curly pile, we find he works best in mohair about 20- 25 mm although as you can see from the photos he looks great in many different fabrics. Chester is an old style, traditional teddy bear and he's a little more difficult to make than some of our other patterns as he has a centre seam (his head gusset is in two pieces) although the instructions illustrate how to make this part fully. The pieces fit together easily, there are no darts and no need to gather pieces in order to make them fit. He's quite a big bear and you need some strength to be able to stuff him and joint him, stuffing him is quite a good work out.

The pattern includes all the instructions you need to make your bear with some diagrams for the more difficult parts. The pattern is on 4 x A3 sheets and is full sized.

You'll need a 1/2 metre (50cm x 140cm) of mohair, paw pad material (21 x 30cm), 14 mm shoe button or black glass eyes, or 16mm coloured glass eyes and 5x 65mm joints. We use plastic pellets in the feet, hands, ankles, wrists and tummy to make him a little saggier and cuddly.

If you need any of the items necessary to make your bear, mohair, wool felt, eyes, sewing thread, strong button thread, bear making tools, polyester stuffing or glass beads, please contact us and we can supply what you need, you'll just need to pay for them separately.

Please note that the completed teddy bear is not a toy and is unsuitable for children under the age of 14, it is a collector's bear.
